My summers are usually soundtracked by that silky smooth, sexy electronic music made by a talented cadre of dudes (think Hot Chip for disco, Chromeo for that funk fix, etc.). Summer 2017 should be no exception, and I’ll be boppin’ my head (wait, bobbin’ or boppin’?) to Baba Stiltz as I cruise through down mountain roads in my Honda Fit. Goddamn, I am cool.
On his latest offering, “Can’t Help It,” the Stockholm savant takes the icy sounds of Swedish electronic music and warps them into an unstoppable summery groove, with jittery percussion driving the track over passive, washed out vocals. It’s not a sound of euphoria like many great summer jams; it’s more like a sound of contentment. And clearly … IT WORKS!
