Jason Isbell and his band, the 400 Unit, are gearing up to release The Nashville Sound next month. The Nashville Sound is the follow-up to 2015’s Something More than Free. Unlike the acoustic balladeering of the Something More than Free, the new album is more of a rocker. Luckily, Isbell included the quiet and tender “If We Were Vampires” because acoustic Isbell is my favorite Isbell. The track concerns itself with not being able to be with the one you love forever because, unfortunately, human beings are built to stay around forever. The key lyric here is “Maybe we’ll get forty years together/ but one day I’ll be gone”. Listen below and weep.

The Nashville Sound is out 6/16 on Southeastern Records.

This dude is so good. I love the barnburners as much as the other guy and it’s great when he really lets loose cause he’s such a talented guitarist… but damn if he doesn’t really shine when he’s making grown men cry before the second verse.

No matter what he’s doing he always manages to put in a few lyrical gems but my favorites are when he wants to make me cry.

Yep. One of the best songwriters on the planet right here.
