Less Art are gearing up to release their debut album, Strangled Light, in July. The band is made up of members of Thrice, Kowloon Walled City, Curl Up and Die, and the baseball-themed hardcore outfit, Puig Destroyer. With Less Art, they have all come together to play what they describe as “post-hardcore by post-youths”. Yes, this is post-hardcore, but there’s a sense of maturity and world-weariness that is lost on most of the young guns that make up the vast majority of the genre. Less Art still manages to attack this lead single with the energy of an emerging band looking to score their first record deal. Amongst the band’s commotion, Mike Minnick delivers a seen-it-all kind of wisdom with lyrics like “And everyone hates each other/ and no one gives a fuck/ even though we know it won’t do us any good”. Strangled Light is out 7/28 on Gilead Media.
