Wolves In the Throne Room Thrice Woven
Thrice Woven

Blocland readers, today is a good day. Today the Olympia, Washington black metal perfecters, Wolves In the Throne Room, are back. With their first video ever, Wolves In the Throne Room give us the first taste of their upcoming album, Thrice Woven. The video is just over four minutes, but the actual song is over nine. In a press statement the band says “You’ll have to listen to the full track to hear Anna Van Hausswollf’s glory”. Their last album, 2014’s Celestite, saw the band leave metal completely and take on ambient experimentation. I’m happy to report that “Born From the Serpent’s Eye” finds the band back in full on black metal mode. Watch the video, which is exactly what you’d expect a Wolves In the Throne Room video to be like, below.

Thrice Woven is out 9/22 on the band’s Artemesia label.

    this is rad

known about these guys for a while but what’s your pick for their best album?

      • lobster man

Diadem of 12 Stars with Two Hunters as a close second. But “I Will Lay My Bones Among the Rocks and Roots” is their best song.

        • theyachtmaster

Oh good, IWLMBATRAR is on the one album that is NOT on Spotify

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTnfzWehaGg Don’t worry I remember how all of this worked before spotify.

          • theyachtmaster

            bandcamp, bro, haha

          • lobster man

Haha nah youtubes the real throwback here. and unfortunately bandcamp doesn’t offer the same experience. You don’t stir the pot with strangers on bandcamp.

          • Black Antlers

All their stuff is worth a listen and Two Hunters is a great place to start but Diadem of 12 Stars is an absolute work of art. I give you Queen of the Borrowed Light….Ulver worship at it’s finest, and no I’m not being snarky.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woTPLIYSn54

They’re both two of my favorite black metal albums ever which also means they’re top ranking just metal albums too.

  • Black Antlers

Fuck yes!! This and the new Hell and Panopticon albums are currently my most anticipated metal albums for the later half of 2017.

    • lobster man

Wha??? New Blut aus Nord? Well damn I’d say we’re all set for the rest of the year.

      • Black Antlers

Yep, according to Vindsval himself there’ll be a new BAN album released in October. No word yet on what style of BAN it will be though, but I’m guessing it’ll err towards either the more mechanical, raw or discordant styles rather than the traditional, melodic approach of Memoria Vetusta III. Or maybe something entirely new.

        • DFrye

That BAN EP from last year fucking rules.

          • Black Antlers

Yeah, took a few spins to sink in with me but once it gets you in it’s talons….

  • Black Antlers

Any chance of coaxing an email interview with them?

    • lobster man

      I hope so.

Just found out the good news and replied. Also, didn’t realise but Steve Von Til does some guest vocals on the album
