We all have ’em, right? Bands we like but aren’t crazy about. But for one reason or another, whether it’s road trippin’, at a BBQ, that “special” alone time with the one you love/lust, etc etc….that band that has one or a few songs that absolutely WORK. I kinda love having bands like this in my life. DJ Krush has a 1999 album with Japanese horn master Toshinori Kondo that I don’t listen to all that often but if I’m on the 101 on the Pacific Ocean coastline you can bet your sweet ass that thing is on. There’s something about it that just captures that entire vibe so perfectly. I would be remiss if I didn’t drop that right here………….

Of the current bands floating around the musical landscape nobody fits this bill better than Future Islands for me. Most of the time I’m just ok with ’em. They are a perfectly fine band and Sam is obviously an engaging frontman. But every now and then I’ll hear them come on randomly and there is NOBODY I want to hear more. “Ran” came on my radio on the way back from lunch and I couldn’t blast that thing loud enough. That propulsive rhythm section was just flat out getting it done for me. Sure, I was late back from lunch. A small price to pay as a music nerd.

Soooo……..whatchoooo got? Who falls in this niche for you? Let me know down in the comments. I’ve thrown a collaborative playlist below. Let’s fill this thing up with these “Friend Zone” bands, for lack of a better term. What else are ya gonna do on a thursday? Blocland – Always In Formation – Always Collaborative – IT WORKS

What would be the best RATT song to add?

        • Blochead4real

“I Killed Glenn (Shoved Shrimp Down His Fucking Flanhole)”

          It’s a pretty rare B-side.

While most would go with “Round and Round” – a great song by any measure – I’d be more inclined to pick “You’re In Love” from their second album, Invasion Of Your Privacy.

Concur on Future Islands. Good band, don’t turn ’em off if they come on, rarely reach for ’em etc.
