Impetuous Ritual
Blight Upon Martyred Sentience

The great Australian death metal experimenters, Impetuous Ritual, will be back next month with Blight Upon Martyred Sentience. The new album will be the follow-up to 2014’s Unholy Congregation of Hypocritical Ambivalence. Impetuous Ritual specialize in a grim, ultra-weird, ultra-knotty form of death metal that’s more concerned with engulfing listeners in a fog of guitars and blast beats rather than pummeling. But, with album titles like those, you probably could’ve guessed what you’re getting yourself into. Now, they have shared the album’s second single, “Synchronous Convergance”. The track is built around jagged shredding and a kind of atmosphere that makes me feel like I’m being buried alive in a landslide of boulders.

Blight Upon Martyred Sentience is out 6/16 on Profound Lore Records.

For some reason it always seems appropriate to me that this kind of obtuse wonky death metal comes from the country that gives us the duck billed platypus.

I wouldn’t have it any other way but it’s hard to compete with the obtuse wonkiness of the platypus.
