The past few years have seen singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek go from long respected and talented artist to lightning rod for controversy. To say the choices Kozelek makes are baffling is an understatement. I don’t really care about any of it. As his music has been a true buoy for me personally for 25 years now. I’m lucky enough to have a best friend named Michael. If I could write something as beautiful as this, just one time, I would be thrilled.
Do you remember our first subway ride?
Our first heavy metal haircuts?
Our last swim on the east coast?
And me with my ridiculous looking pierced nose?
I remember your warm smile in the sun
The daydreaming boy without a shirt on
The Birmingham barfly father
Left the mother of three sons
You’re the oldest juvenile delinquent bum
My best friend
Anyway, check out the track. It’s from the band that made Mark famous (or the indie rock singer songwriter version thereof)
