The Malian guitar band, Tinariwen, are set to release ‘Elwan’ (Elephant) next week. NPR was kind enough to hook up Blocland and the rest of the world with a stream before the release date on 2/10. The album is in response to the political and social unrest in northern Mali. Due to the overall dangerous conditions the band was forced to record in Paris, California, and Morocco. Sort of like Exile on Main Street but with coups instead of taxes. I’m not going to pretend that I can speak on Malian music with any kind of authority, but this is straight up ear candy for me. And I think it will be ear candy for you too.
